Does anyone else love Calvin and Hobbes? Calvin was an irrepressible, six year old boy, with a stuffed tiger named Hobbes. To Calvin, the tiger was alive and they had many wonderful adventures together.

Calvin also faced, GASP!, a female classmate! Susie Derkins.

For a six year old, Calvin had an amazing grasp on life, and a vocabulary I envy.

Hmmm, shall I post the answer now or wait until later?

A little guy with an axe in his hands is telling me to wait until later.

If Zippy says wait, then I shall wait.

Oh, you say, this isn't interesting. It is trivial and not worth the time it took you to read it.

Wait, I see someone raising their hand.

"I want to read what you have to say, SC."

Bingo! If one person wants to read it, I shall keep posting.

By the way, I am cracking up. It wouldn't post the name of a famous author. Too funny!

    Hi. I'm back.

Have you thought about what all the famous people in my post above have in common?

    Name: IMG_5275[1].jpg
Views: 152
Size: 11.5 KB

Yes, they all have roses named after them.

I love roses. I don't have any roses. I have planted roses over the years. And watched hubby mow and bush-hog them. And seen my father-in-law mow them down. And seen the gas/oil company which put in three large high-pressure natural gas lines across my property bulldoze them. I gave up on growing them.

But if given the opportunity to stop and smell someone else's roses, I do.

One of my favorites is Queen Elizabeth.

    Name: IMG_5272[1].jpg
Views: 147
Size: 14.0 KB

Another is Mister Lincoln, one of the roses named after Abraham Lincoln.

    Name: IMG_5269[1].jpg
Views: 153
Size: 16.4 KB

And, as the poster says, don't just give a rose a delicate sniff. Nope, you have to smell the rose! Cut a bloom and bring it up to your nose and put your nose into the blossom and SMELL it. Take a deep breath. No wishy-washy, lady-like sniff.

    Why?

Roses are complex. Rosarians breed roses for different scents. Yes, Rosarian, is a real word. A Rosarian is a person who breeds, cultivates and grows roses.

Rose scents are classified as: Citrus, spice, myrrh, fruit, damask, tea, and Classic "old rose". Two people smelling the same bloom on a rose bush at the same time will not necessarily smell the same thing. The scents of roses change at different times of day, and at different stages in the rose's bloom time.

David Austin, a breeder of Old English roses, has an amazing catalog.

The colors and scents of Austin roses are truly wonderful.

I need a camera. With a zoom lens. Do you have any idea how hard it is to get down on the ground and take a picture of little weeds? Actually, the getting down part is not as hard as the getting back up part.

Come join the 501st & get a ship with new canon & hull. We've been doing really well without a full team. Come on over & join us. 100 minimum kills per battle is all we require. All of us end up doing a lot more than that but not having the pressure to do 800 is what we about. Fun is what it's still about for us. We need 6. Come as just one or bring your friends😁

I was watching the news this morning, and they had a report about video games. They said video games are addictive. And the gaming companies know this! Oh, my smurfs! News flash! Video games are addictive!

When we complete a quest, obtain a new ship, ruby deco, new smurf hut (on the other game I play) or whatever the task we complete is, it releases feel-good endorphins in our brains. This makes us want to do it again to receive more endorphins. And do it again, and again. Huh! Who knew that video games were addictive?

Oh, and they also said that many people who work for the tech companies that produce the devices we use to play our games on, AND the people who produce the games, do NOT let their children have unlimited access to the devices. Some, gasp!, do not allow their children to play the games they put out! Because of course, they want us to be addicted to the game, but not their own children.

I already knew I am addicted to this game. I did not need to watch the news to have an "expert" tell me I am addicted to the game. At least it is not as destructive to some things I was way too familiar with in a past life! But that is another story.

Should I be asking people to join me in the madness of guild association, and guild battles? Heck yeah! Why would I want to have all the lovely feel-good endorphins all to myself? (Insert sound of evil laughter here.)

501st really needs a few players. Join us. Spread the endorphins around.

Picture a quiet, foggy morning on a river.

A small boat drifts silently by.

A few egrets take flight. The sound of their wings barely disturbs the calm air.

A Great Blue Heron stands it's ground.

A fish leaps out of the water.

You see the flash of its body, hear the splash as it disappears beneath the surface of the water. And as the ripples settle out, all is quiet and calm again.

(Thank you, Blue, for the suggestion, and the images you planted in my mind.)

SC now you've done it. You have me thinking about retiring 5 years earlier than originally planned.

Defcon, I found them online. I have no idea where any of them were taken. Arkansas has lots of rivers and fishing spots. Lake Dardanelle, near me, has several big fishing tournaments, including being part of one worth $100,000.00.

I took some screen shots of my husband's Smurf's Village game. I have been a fan of the smurfs for years. Look at the expressions on their faces.

My hubby took his new fat tire bike to the walking/bike trail Sunday morning. Guess what he rode through on the trail?

    Dog poo!

He didn't notice it on the trail. He didn't notice it until he got home and was taking the bike off the bike rack to put it in the house. And when your tires are FAT like on his bike, that could be a lot of dog poo! I should not be laughing. Oh, well, it wasn't my bike, and I didn't have to clean it off!

He loves his bikes, though. He rode about 13 miles Sunday morning. Go, Hubby!
