Just found it! Thread is "Quests, Think on your feet and the other one", post number 35. My post follows that number 36. Just trying now to find that thread!!
Is this the link you want?

I hate to burst your bubble but Soon said the same thing across in HA very shortly before its demise was announced, then in AV and I bet I could find quite a few other PG games as well. Not all with Soon you understand just games that came to the end of their lives. There is a PG pattern with a closing that they seem very reluctant to move from even though it clearly causes pain to players and unnecessary pain at that (UD).

Usual Disclaimer shortened to UD means in my opinion, limited to my game, my style of play, in my experience, only speaking for myself, I am only giving my own opinion of my game play I would also cordially like to remind you that everyone not only plays differently but everyone had different games so what is right/works for one may not for another. It is NOT a one size fits all. I am still having fun.

Thanks SE you are the best at finding things, how do you do it?!

I am worried that SP is coming to an end as I have said I'd before but I realise that all games come to an end sooner or later but I'm in no hurry. SP is a stress buster for me, an escape from daily life for a few minutes. I would miss it. Until a new game appears I guess.

    Eely.
my second sig. line says 'Smell the Roses' which was part of a phrase from a famous golfer of days gone by. I was like everyone else in the first part of my first game. I started late by a month or six weeks from release date and I was always striving to catch up then I realised the leaders of the time were constantly waiting for new content and getting board so I took a conscious decision to slow my game down. Even now I put aside time each day to do something different. So today I need some gem shards, I have needed them for about a week but today I will look for them, not at the frantic I need to make a good score speed but slowly and gently. I dont normally think too far ahead but just for you, tomorrow, if everything goes to plan, i will go into CoS and make two sets of 5*'s, because I can. I will pause and smell the roses.

edit. I bet you would miss the chats as much if not more than SP. What would life be without pearls of wisdom from SE? BTW are you feeling better now?

I would miss our chats terribly! I've been without my phone since the accident so haven't played SP since early April and I'm missing it. I've lost out on Lillypad scenes and others which I hate as I've never missed a scene before this. The forum is my only link to the game just now and it's helping to chat to all you guys! SE, Your pearls of wisdom keep me going!

The only downside is the time required which is far less for spinning 100 rubies at a time in the slot machine. Incidently, if you did spend 80000 rubies and won 6 ruby trees, they would give the rubies back at 60 a day, so you would break even in 1333 days or 3.6 years!
    Mike:

Allow me to play devil's advocate for a moment. I don't totally disagree with what you wrote, but "they" may look at it from a different perspective.

Let's say "they" spend 84K rubies "they've" amassed, thru regular playing, on a Casino event for top-2 or 6 trees (plus additional tier rewards and who knows how many shovel, PT and E-Ore jackpots) which breaks down to 14K rubies per tree. Doesn't look so good, but let me spin it for you.

    The Alternative:

    1) To craft 6 ruby trees in the Tinker would take you, minimally, 30 days. Plus, you couldn't use the Tinker for other things during that time.

    2) To craft 6 ruby trees from droplets would require 1,200 droplets. Which is the same as completing 20 consecutive Mid-week searching events or finishing a weekend event with the 10 droplet reward tier, 120 times in a row, which would take upwards of a year's worth of mid-week events or 4 years of weekend events. I don't even want to calculate the Monday Madness quest 2 droplet reward option.

    3) To craft 6 ruby trees in the Tinker using rubies would require 600,000 rubies PLUS the 30 consecutive days for all 6 to cook.

    4) My droplet find rate in digsites is 0.96% (based on using 5,313 shovels in one recording). Let's round up to 1% (50 droplets) for every 5,000 shovels used. To find 1,200 droplets in digsites for the same 6 ruby trees it would take you at least 120,000 shovels PLUS the 30 consecutive days in the Tinker to cook them.

    5) Let's not even talk about the option to spend real cash for rubies to craft trees or "purchase" a win in the events. We all know examples of this.

    6) The only other reasonable options to spend your rubies on (besides the 6 trees) is for Power-Up Energy, buying jewels in the Tinker and buying wrenchies. Most players have maxed out their jewels. Wrenchies, anvils and shovels are an afterthought at this point. And, some players don't like the BB/Searching events, so they really don't need the extra energy. (Sure, they could skip quest parts for rubies, but why? They could also unlock content in EG for rubies, but why?)

Benefits of Spending for Top-2 Rewards:

    1) Those 6 ruby trees start paying off immediately, no crafting time.

    2) Strategy. The top-2 in my group forced several other players to burn rubies to keep pace. Rubies that those players won't have for the next event, be it a Casino, Combo, or BB event. Essentially, "they" finished top-2, but may have set themselves up for a high finish in the next event (possibly) by reducing assets of other contenders. Doing this helps to average down the overall costs per ruby trees won in events.

    3) Spillover. Spending 84K to finish top-2 would also produce at least 20-30 of the following: 30-Shovels jackpot, 30-PTs jackpot and E-Ore jackpots. (My experience has been roughly: 15-20 Shovel jackpots, 14-17 PT jackpots and 3 E-Ore jackpots when spending 75-85K in the Casino.

    4) Generally, the 5 or 6 times that I have finished top-2 in the Casino events I have played about 3 or 4 two-hour sessions per weekend. Not the full weekend commitment that a BB event usually takes.

So, yes agreed, 80 some-odd-thousand rubies for 6 ruby trees in a Casino event is steep, but I can see why "they" do it. Like I wrote before, I just don't understand why "they" wouldn't wait for the second of consecutive Casino events and spend half or a third as much for 6 trees. That's the mistake.

Igota, your figures are all out by a factor of two as it is only 100 droplets for a tree, so 600 for 6 trees. Otherwise yes I agree with what you say, though for players with that many rubies to burn I have to ask what is the point. There is a cap of 400000, so 5 casino events could completely drain your ruby supply. Since we seem to get gambling events two weeks out of three there will not be time to replenish that many rubies unless they already have far more trees than you do.

I have been playing for 2 years now and have essentially finished everything and built up a nice stash of 100000 rubies. I am willing to spend 30-40k on a searching event, and can replenish them over the next three weeks but would not burn almost all of them on a gambling event for the same reward.

No phone and no game, that is a bummer, I am gobsmacked. It puts all this other stuff into perspective or it does for me.
We (and this time I speak for a lot of us I am sure) are here to talk any time you want. Thats right isnt it CB? Keep you chin up.
Cross threading and answering your playing another PG game comments. The wonderful thing PG did was give us this forum to play with. Every PG customer support person has, to some extent or other joined with us to chat. I dont mean stiff game related talk but proper chat. They have their rules that are so obvious that they are made by the bosses and they abide by them but within these limits they do interact with us. The point is that it is more than happens elsewhere so we are allowed a lot of leeway for which I do thank them even though I get frustrated and cross when the company line is towed. I have played some 'buggy' non-PG games that have had no support at all or just the basic with no compensation. What I am saying is there are worse things than PG buggy. There are also much better games out there as well with fantastic support so PG have much to learn. Maybe it is a case of different expectations? We expect more and they expect to give less!

I know and you are right of course! Put it this way, I have played SP for just over 2 years and that's by far the longest time I have ever stuck with a game, so that's a testament to PG. As for the forum, I would be beyond devastated to lose that. Where would I be without my SE!!!!

Mike, yes there is a cap of 400,000 rubies, but if you are close, you can ticket and PG will override the cap. I did this with no problems and have amassed almost 500,000. Why one might ask? Because I can! LOL

Wheels, hope you are getting better and glad the forum is keeping your spirits up. Hang in there. SP withdrawal is no fun. I was without internet for 18 hours and thought I would not survive!

    Mikey:

Correct! I switcheroooed the anvil and the ruby tree components. However, you got what I was driving at. I do agree that 80K is a little steep for 6 trees, when, like you wrote, you can get them easier elsewhere being smart. Although, for a player like me who has constantly had to work on spending the rubies to keep away from the 400K mark, the 80K for 6 trees isn't all that daunting.

I probably could do like Topmom wrote and ask PG for cap relief, but between the BB events and the other events I spend about 100-120K in rubies and then replenish them in about a month's time. Right now, I'm pulling down 2,310 rubies per day. So that's about 65K per month WITHOUT trades. With trades, add in another 2,500 - 3,000 per day.

Now the question comes in, how many other players out there are in the same "income" bracket as me? I know MalcT 41 has a stash of ruby trees, but other than the forumers, it's hard to tell. I also know !+Gameholic+! has been playing for quite a while. S/he probably is close or in the neighborhood. I'll guessitmate that there's 10 or less non-forumers out there who have the ways and means to amass (short term) a pile of rubies. It could be that those players just figure that there's nothing better to spend the rubies on, so pounce on the events for 6 trees and then rebuild their ruby balance. I don't know? It's an interesting discussion, though. Different strategies.

    Topmom:

Do let me know when you've hit that golden mark of 500K in rubies. I love that you're doing this. Also, a screenshot would be fantastic. Congrats.

Thanks Topmum, it means a lot when people say nice things, I have only been on the forum a fairly short time but followed it for over a year before so I forget that people don't know me as well as I know them! I've been following their posts for so long. I love the community here and although I do miss SP terribly just now, I know I would miss the forum so much more! I may have to ask for some screenshots of scenes I'm missing to make up for my temporary loss of SP!!

Topmom, yes I know you can ask PG to let you go over the 400k limit. I do not think I will ever need too, I tend to buy lots of SF for searching events and if I ever got close to 400k, then I guess as igota says I would not worry about gambling away 80k of them. I am in a similar situation with shovels, I always thought Monday madness was a waste of shovels, but now that I have over 9500 of them I use it as a way of avoiding going over the 10000 soft cap. In the good old days we would have regular weekend digging events which would stop me building up excess shovels but now we only seem to get combined digging and gambling events and the rewards you can realistically get with shovels only are just not worth it.

Just a reminder to everyone to keep a lookout if you are crypting during this weekends event. We want to know If:

You see that it was possible to get 81 relics with one token
You get close, 3 out of 4, especially if the fourth was present but you missed it.
You are the luckiest crypter in SP and manage to get 81 relics from one token. Do not forget a screenshot!!!

When I hit it I will take a screenshot...but since I can't post screenshots for some reason, I will have to send it via private email to my forum buddy and have her post it for me.

Have you tried cropping your picture Salmo? Usually works for me and then I can post.

I can never get the " basic uploader" option from the "Insert Image" box to come up to get to the point to crop anything. I have bookmarked really good instructions from Elle, she did a screenshot with big red arrows, basically "Posting Screenshots for Dummies" lol...and Ro posted some good directions as well, but alas....

I don't have a computer...all of my photos are stored in the iPad photo app...

i don't crop the method you described here and all my pictures/photos are on my iPad. I use the Photos app, select the picture I want to crop, select blue edit top right of screen and then select the crop sign on the left hand side. I crop then and select Done when finished. I don't know what Elle or Rosemary suggested and this might be a duplication or not. It basically boils down to cropping outside of the uploader option button.
